Vanilla Sugar

I think my mom was super ahead of the times when I was a kid. That, or I’m just catching up to her amazing thinking! Let me back up. When I was a kid, my mom used to stick vanilla beans in sugar and I thought it was the strangest thing. Little did I know, it was the secret to making all her baked goods taste extra special.

Fast forward years later, and I’ve started doing the same thing! I just made a new batch today, so I thought I’d share how easy it is to do. Use this sugar as you would in anything you bake. You won’t be sorry you did!

Vanilla Sugar

  • Servings: unlimited
  • Difficulty: easy

Ingredients

  • 1 large container of white sugar
  • 2-3 vanilla beans

Directions

  1. Fill a container with sugar. Slice open the vanilla beans and cut into pieces. Stick the beans into sugar for 2 weeks and then use. Keeps indefinitely! Enjoy!

  1. My mom did this too, only this is where she put the vanilla bean pods after she scraped the beans into a recipe. There is still so much flavor in the beans, they impart their perfume magnificently! I do the same thing, of course, in my funny little bunny sugar bowl!
