Plum season has come early again! So we are seeing them all over the markets here. They come in huge bags of 10-12, so you can eat some, but by the time you’ve done that, the others are fully ripe and are about to get soft. So, the best thing to do with them is either cook or bake with them.
Now, if I ate pork, plums would be the perfect addition to any pork dish. But, since I don’t, I tend to use them in a sweet way instead of savory. Take, for example, this Plum Streusel Coffee Cake I made a few weeks ago. It uses a bunch of plums and makes the perfect brunch or dessert pie with a cup of coffee or tea.
Today, I wanted to make something a little bit easier though – a dump and bake kinda cake. So crumbles are perfect for this. Just slice your fruit and sprinkle a buttery crumble on top and you have yourself the perfect little pie. I served mine with some vanilla bean ice cream on top and it was the best dessert! I know you’ll love making this one, too!
What’s your favorite fruit pie to make? I’d love to hear in the comments below! Happy baking!

Easy Plum Crumble
Ingredients
For the Filing:
- 5-6 cups ripe plums
- 1/4c light brown sugar
- Finely grated zest 1 orange
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon all-purpose flour
For the Crumble:
- 1c all-purpose flour
- 3/4c butter
- 2/3c white sugar
- 2/3c light brown sugar
- 1/4c ground almonds
Directions
- Heat the oven to 350 degrees. Put the plums into the base of a shallow baking dish. Mix together the sugar, orange zest, cinnamon and flour and sprinkle over the plums. Sprinkle 2 tablespoons water and set aside.

- Put all the crumble ingredients into a food processor, and using the pulse button, mix until the mixture just starts to clump together. Scatter the crumble over the plums and bake in the oven for 30–40 mins until golden brown.
- Leave for about 15 mins before serving with your favorite topping (ice cream, whipped cream, you name it!).

We won’t even see the plum blossoms here for a while Julie, but I can dream!
